Gift Basket for the Boyfriend
I know some of you ladies are wondering what I came up with for my boyfriend's birthday. Well, ta-da! Here ya go:
I got him a gift basket filled with some goodies I thought he'd like:
-- Value Pack of Hanes White T-shirts (I always steal them from him because I like to sleep in them!)
-- Sharpies (He likes to carry them around wherever he goes.)
-- Pack of Car Towels for Drying & Detailing (He's a car guy & loves to keep his car clean. Last time I helped him wash his car I noticed he didn't have anything to dry with except old t-shirts!)
-- Super Street Car Magazine (Like I said, he's a car guy!)
-- Cycle World Magazine (He really wants a motorcycle & is getting his motorcycle license next weekend.)
-- Bottle of Arizona Blueberry White Tea (I introduced this to him last year & it's been his favorite since then.)
I loved putting this together for him. It might not be much, but like I said, I had a small budget & knew that there was really nothing that he wanted. I do plan on cooking him a nice dinner sometime this week, I just haven't had the chance since the last couple days have been super busy.
Sadly, I feel like I didn't get a great response from him for this gift. My friends loved the idea & thought what I got him was great, but some of the things he said when I gave it to him kind of got me down.
Regarding the Sharpies he said, "Wow, I have so many of these already." Well, I know! But, none from me! Sheesh.
Regarding the Car Towels he said, "Great, and I don't even have a car." (He's currently saving up to buy a new car because he sold his last year. He's been driving his dad's car for now, but he STILL likes to keep it clean. I thought it was sweet.)
Regarding the Arizona Blueberry White Tea he said, "You got the small one!" (Apparently 7-11 sells them in two sizes & I got the small one. Bad me.)
I might be reading too much into his comments, but I guess you had to be there. This is just how he is; he's so hard to please! Either soup isn't hot enough or the music isn't loud enough. He can be rather picky & that gets to me sometimes. There's nothing wrong with constructive critcism, but to criticize a gift I got him? Really, there's no need for that. I already felt bad for not being to spend more on him.
Anyways, I'm just venting. I'm PMS'ing right now so everything is getting to me. Don't start thinking my boyfriend is an ass because he is far from it! Trust me, I don't take crap from anyone, so I wouldn't be with him if he didn't treat me right.
Despite my poopiness, here's a couple pics of the moment I gave him his gift. He's all smiles which is great. He did love the car mag & started reading it right away. At least I got one thing right!

Post a Commentaaw.. super cute idea
Aw, don't feel bad, sometimes guys do not think before they speak!
I am sure he didn't realize that you put a lot of thought into each thing that you gave hime. Next time put a little note on each thing, telling him why you wanted to give it to him--then he will have to read--and not talk! hee hee.
great idea! im sure he didnt mean any of that. guys just dont get it!
"IDK MY BFF JILL"
You two look so cute together. Don't feel bad over his lack of enthusiastic response. He knows you care!
It was a great idea, he appreciates your time and interest, I'm sure!
awww elle - that was very cute! & so thoughtful...I agree with Leopard sometimes guys don't think before they speak...so don't worry about it..you feel good and you gave it thought with all your heart - that's what matters
I think what Leopardcc said about putting a note on each item is good advice, because just seeing that stuff won't mean as much as if he KNOWS exactly why you chose said item and how much thought you put into it. From the description you wrote for this blog, us girls can very well see how much you love your guy. I hope he knows that, and I'm sure he does because it's so obvious.
It was a lovely, thoughtful gift, kudos.
Aw thanks ladies! I feel so much better about it now. As I look back on it, I realize it would have been better to add little sticky notes explaining each item. Guys are dense. But you're right, indie, us ladies are just smarter.
Haha.
He says I have a problem communicating, which is so true. I guess I didn't communicate my message in this gift as well as I could have. But oh well! I know he appreciates it. Thanks again, ladies, for the love! <3
I was there when you gave it to him and when he made those responses. Yeah, I agree with you, when you receive a gift from a significant other, you totally appreciate the thought and the person for it! And even if he does communicate better than you, he should have waited until it was just the two of you. I HATE IT when Chris talks about us in front of people... it's so rude! Haha. But anyway, I liked it!
Yaaah, that's why I was moody at the end of the night. Blah.
But thanks anyways, Fia.
awww that's actually a cute idea, the gift basket, but then again i'm a girl and he's a boy. i agree with leopardcc, guys tend to say things before they think. how about on your dinner that you're planning to make for him you can explain the whole basket to him and why you selected those gifts, maybe then he will get the thoughts and work you put in to make his b-day extra special.
if he still doesn't get it, you have to kick him to the curve elle! kidding, i'm sure his a keeper.
We're TOTALLY smarter!
girl thats alright aleast u can say i gave him a gift. and it was from the heart. ya digg so wipe ur shoulders off and dont sweat it
girl atleast u can say u gave him a gift. and it was from the heart ya digg wipe ur shoulders down.
I LOVE that idea too... last Christmas I gave my 14 year old niece a goody basket filled with girly much haves in her favorite color red, she loved it.
msdwadee -- You're so right!
casondra -- Aw that is so sweet! I'm glad she loved it. I am def keeping this gift idea in mind for the rest of my loved ones.
I am sure he loved every minute of it and did not want to show his pride. You know how guys are, they like to be macho all the time. Let me give you a tip for your basket next time. At the bottom of your basket roll and stuff it with newspaper and then put color tissue paper on that. Then layer all your gifts in the basket and stuff colored tissue paper in between the gifts. Then by shrink wrap to wrap the basket in and tie it like a bow. (like an easter basket).
Great idea mominator, thanks!
awww that's cool girl!
cute idea..
and yea girl..
guys are like that..
i remember you saying
that he wanted a new car.
well he ddnt get dat so
wa-wa, but at the end of the
day im sure he loves you!
nice idea!

Anyone can have the facts, but having opinions is an art.
I think you did a great job, honey!!
aww cute idea!
I'm sure he didn't mean anything by his comments. Guys are just stupid. But I would feel the same way as you do, so
I think that was a really sweet idea! You did a great job!
And as far as the boyfriend's reaction goes: sometimes, as hard as you might try to show them love, their reaction to your efforts can be less than thrilling, but it certainly doesn't mean they don't appreciate it.
"Showtime, our love's comin' out. Lights, camera, action...show what we're about."
of course, were smart !!! only a girl would came up with such a great idea, and by the way it was a very original gift.

THAT IS SUCH A GOOD IDEA!!!!! I LOVE THAT.
GOOD JOB <3
You did a great job. I think he appreciate everything what you gave him because he love you.
Thanks!
That's really thoughtful!
I thought your idea was so cute and so sweet! He is silly for making silly comments that didn't make you feel special! I am sure he loved your gift...in the moment boys sometimes say stupid things....because they are boys, they can't help it, it's encoded in the Y chromosome!
Haha, my boyfriend get the look of a deer in front of the headlights and sort of freezes when I'm standing over him expecting praise. I do like a million small thing to make him happy or help him, and for every one of those things I think that he should like open the window and declare his un-dying love for me or something. Needless to say he disapoints me with his; "nice".
I do feel intitled to give a little attitude if he says something stupid though, gotta draw the line somewhere!
Redhot--so sweet(he is HOT)
Thanks, lolprincess!
tari -- Stupid boys! But it's ok, can't stay mad forever. Boys know how to get back on our good sides. Geez! Haha.
tresjolie -- Haha, yah I sure gave him an attitude about it! But I talked to him about it last night, so we're ok now.
redhot -- Hehe, he's just ok.
i gave my boyfriend a present that was similar to this! i bought little things he would need and put heart shaped post its on each thing to tell why he needs it. haha but my boyfriend gave the same reaction as your bf! it sort of let me down too because you know its a present. he was saying most of the things he wouldn't need it because he already had some or he didnt have something to use the thing for or blah blah blah. he's incredibly picky too which is why i think he reacted like this. whatever though i guess us girls are more thoughtful and most guys dont express their feelings. we actually thought hard about the present you know because for each thing it took me a lot of time and effort into them. you did a great job. its a good idea if you dont have much money. be proud of yourself =) because even though i felt like he also didn't give a great reaction, i was still proud of myself because its the thought that counts. another thing i did since i was low on money i bought one of those hostess cupcakes and a singing candle. after i gave him the present, this happened in the car. i just light the candle and i think that really suprised him! haha he actually gave a good reaction he was smiling and said it was cute.
wow you are amazing and sucha wonderful person!!! I'm sure if i did my b/f would be like oh thanks. Very cute idea! i looove it
I did something like this for my boyfriend for Valentine's Day. He LOVES anything sour (candy, limes w/ salt etc). I bought a silver metalish container and filled it with limes, lemons, that sour beer salt stuff, sour candy, and other stuff (can't remember all of it! been a few years!) and wrapped it in green cellophane paper and green ribbon (i worked at a florist so it was all free!) and put a paper on it that said "Pucker Up And Kiss Me"
It was great! And he loved it.
So yeah, I think that gift baskets are a great idea. Sorry your b/f didn't show much enthusiasm... but you showed you care and that's what counts!
Oh btw, the silver container is now our bathroom trashcan!!! lol!!!
Love the gift! I don't think he is an @ss or anything; he reacted in the same way most guys react...lol... So typical.
